officially autumn

I'm a prairie kid.  I like visiting the mountains and the ocean is OK, too, but nothing makes my heart sing like a big ol' farmer's field and lots of big sky.  Happy first day of fall, everyone!!!

I think it's whatever you grew up with that just resonates with your sense of, "Home." Coming from a long line of farmers, big sky and rolling field of canola and expansive sea of waving wheat will always make me nostalgic, especially at harvest time. You can take the girl out of the prairies.. Remember the yoga pics? Even my big-city best friend Tannis can't help but pine for Alberta skies.
Oh, these pictures make me homesick. My favourite memories of my father involve waiting at the end of the swath to jump into the combine or the swather to do rounds with him and talk. Coming from a family of 6 girls, it's the only one-on-one time I got with my father. Sometimes something would go wrong and he would have to exit the combine to check it out in the back leaving me squeeling with fear at the wheel. Ahhhh...thanks for the pictures, they make my heart sing.

LOL - I remember the tractor being put into gear and left to go up he field with us girls on the flatbed while the men loaded up square bales; we were squealing with delight/fear about our driverless cart...
